• Only remain on these for the minimum time needed and always park on areas where there are a number vehicles   parked and there are people around.
• In fact on the small rest areas there are notices warning people not to stay there for a lengthy time as the police do not patrol them. 
• Always lock the car whilst  at the petrol pumps even if someone is with it whilst the petrol is being dispensed and paid for.
• Do not allow yourself to be engaged in conversation no matter how plausible the other person may be.
• Always have the whole of the car in view all of the time as a common ploy is to cut the tyre with a knife and to then offer help.
• When paying for petrol always put money or card away inside the payment area out of view of persons outside.
